Jacks song is about how the song It's a long way to Tipperary was first written and performed in Stalybridge yes I said Stalybrige Some very good friends of mine have bought the Tipperary Cafe in Stalybridge and have traced the history,it turns out that the caf'e is on the very same site as the old Grand Theatre,Where in 1912 singer Jack Judge had a bet for some beer money that he could write a song and perform it on the very same stage within 24 hours,as Jack was walking out the theatre he overheard someone getting directions and was told it's a long way Jack said To Tipperary because this is where his parents came from and used to say to him
as a child we will take you there but it's a long way, henced the song was born. Alyson who owns the caf'e gave me the whole story and commissioned me to write a song and Jacks song was born, On Jan 31 2007 this will be the 95th anniversary of the writing of the song and to celebrate I will be playing a live gig in the Caf'e at 2-00pm as well as singing the song live. A commerative single will also be available for £2-00 plus P & P You can order this single via my website by droppinjg me an E -Mail at info@domcollins.co.uk or call me on 07786 306576
